Boer War Balloons in 3D

The balloons in Boer War stereoviews are normal shaped gas balloons used for tethered observation. The Boer War set seem to comprise just a few cards, with  single balloons shown at increasing distances!

These cards are all published by Underwood and Underwood and copyrighted 1900/1901. They are not rare, but tend not to be in wonderful condition, especially with the tan mounts

Images from the same negatives were also published by other companies.

Underwood and Underwood. The same image appears on a light yellowish mount in the 'world studies' series. Titled 'South African War' by Reid Bros (South Africa), as well as being published by Keystone.

Trumpet2.jpg (36043 bytes) This image has exactly the same title as the one above. It also appears (on a dark mount) with the title 'Balloon Corps - ready to ascend for observation - Lord Roberts advancing on Pretoria, S.A. The balloon used for the observation of Pretoria was 'The Trumpet'.
