Zeppelins in 3D

Images here are of rigid airships constructed by the Zeppelin Company.  Zeppelin wrecks from the First World War are not included (they're on the wrecks page).

'Zeppelins' are those rigid airships constructed in Germany by the Zeppelin Company between 1900 and 1937. The most successful was LZ 127, Graf Zeppelin, and the most notorious remains the largest aircraft ever to fly, LZ 129 Hindenburg.

See also: links to additional pages of LZ127 Graf Zeppelin, and LZ129 Hindenburg stereoviews.

Townzepp250.jpg (5250 bytes)

Keystone 18000 'Zeppelin flying over German Town, Lower Valley of the Rhine'.
The second most common airship stereoview.  Often poorly reproduced images, with the left image worse than the right.
A less common variation refers to the airship as a 'Bird of Prey' and does not have descriptive text on the back.  The airship is LZ3, renamed Z1 after being commissioned as the first military Zeppelin (1908). First flight in 1906, modified as above with extended keel and quadruplane elevators 1907. It was used for training until 1913.

Ebay Values 2000-2003, $3 to $15. Most above $9 unsold.

(Thanks!)

KeystoneV19235 ' Tractor-drawn Artillery of 89th Div. Before Largest hangar in Germany'

The hangar was near Bitung.
Probably 1918

Ebay Values 2000-2003, $10 to $20.

zr3200.jpg (4055 bytes) Keystone 17398 'Zeppelin ZR-3 Acquired by the United States from Germany'.

Originally LZ-126, then ZR-3 'Los Angeles' (from November 1924), made in Germany by the Zeppelin Company for the United States. Delivered October 1924.
The text on the card has a number of variations 'Giant Zeppelin ZR-3 Acquired by U. S. from Germany'. . The left image frequently has a light 'half moon' mark at lower left.

Ebay Values 2000-2003, $15 to $99. Most above $35 unsold.

Pyramids250.jpg (6327 bytes) The Graf Zeppelin Over Egypt. Slightly less usual version than the more 'posed' one where the airship is also in better trim.

Keystone 8627. Photographed by George Lewis.

Ebay Values 2000-2003, $70 to $75.  Only two sold.

grafpyr250.jpg (5166 bytes) The Graf Zeppelin Over Egypt. More common version.

'The Graf Zeppelin's Rendezvous with the Eternal Desert and the (more than 4000 year old) Ancient Pyramids of Giza, Egypt.'

Keystone 8632. George Lewis.

Ebay Values 2000-2003, $27 to $81. All sold.

graflake250.jpg (6524 bytes) Keystone 32277 'The Graf Zeppelin'

Graf Zeppelin LZ-127 undergoing maintenance at Lakehurst (USA). October 15 1928. The man standing on the exposed port fin gives an idea of the scale of the aircraft.

Ebay Values 2000-2003, $9 to $85. Most above $30 unsold.

Hind200.jpg (6530 bytes) Keystone 33371 'Friedrichshafen, Germany is the Home of the Zeppelin'

This is the five-engined LZ127 Graf Zeppelin.

Ebay Values 2000-2003, $25 to $104.  All sold.

(Thanks!)
