Special (Ballooning) Projects.

1: Round The World Balloons (this page)

2): CargoLifter, Skyship.  (next page)

Several of the round-the-world balloon projects carried out late in the last century were recorded in 3D. Unfortunately I know of no 3D record of the project which was ultimately successful - Breitling Orbiter 3. (unless you know different?)

Here are some odd images which may eventually join up to form a coherent 3D account of the build-up to that flight. These images (so far) are shown as full-colour anaglyphs, so they should ideally be viewed with red/cyan glasses. You should be able to get the 3D effect with red/blue or red/green glasses. (If you have none, a free pair is available from www.rainbowsymphony.com , or you can make them from lighting filter gels. I use Lee Filters' Flame Red/Peacock Blue)

Above: The capsule of Breitling Orbiter 1 the day before it's delivery to the the launch site in Switzerland.

Breitling Orbiter 1's ill-fated paraffin burner under construction.

Breitling Orbiter 1 several minutes after takeoff.

Breitling Orbiter 1 approaching float altitude. (before going pear-shaped). The balloon was brought down quickly due to paraffin fumes in the gondola.
