Depth-from-Motion as a way of viewing Stereocards

How can you show depth in stereocards over the web???

Well firstly you can 'free view' them (as in previous page).

Secondly you can make anaglyphs, and use red/green specs.*

But how about this - present the two viewpoints alternately instead of simultaneously There is a simple version of this on the R34 page
I've tried a number of variations on timing etc, and introduced a more gradual transition between the frames. The following animations show the state of play right now. (please wait for animation to download. Sorry it takes a while. Can someone help me make it faster?):

Sorry if this takes a while to load. Please be patient

You have to be very careful which part of the image you make 'coincident' - if there is too much motion you don't see the relative motion which indicates relative depth. Also you find out how the slight errors in alignment in stereocard images matter: this is more sensitive to misalignment than stereo projection!

I would be very interested in any feedback as to whether this method of viewing is worth pursuing. Contact: Siltaf at blueyonder dot co dot uk
